World's Largest Spur Auction Series Continues with Silver Saddle and Gold Nuggets

Waco, TX (PR Web) March 18, 2007 -- The third in the series of sales of the massive spur collection of the late W.F. "Bill" Reynolds is slated for March 24th and 25th with over 300 pairs of antique and contemporary spurs. The auction includes other significant items such as a Ted Flowers silver mounted parade saddle considered the best of the best by collectors and a major collection of natural gold nuggets - one as big as a man's fist.

The sale includes highly collectible spurs by many famous makers, exceptional western and Indian art and numerous items from a south Texas estate - things that were used on the ranch by real cowboys spanning the 1860's to the 1920's. That collection includes hats, boots, spurs, fine saddles, quirts, chaps, horn sets, furniture and racks by Wenzel Friedrich and others reminiscent in the early westerns, early firearms, a horse drawn buggy, chuck wagon and other artifacts.

The Ted Flowers silver-mounted parade saddle ensemble with head stall, breast collar and solid silver serape, is embellished with over 600 embossed horse head conchos and engraving. It was used to carry the Texas flag in the Grand Entry of the San Antonio Rodeo for many years by the President of the Palomino Association. Also from San Antonio history, is a Pearl Beer etched glass advertising window from the San Antonio City Brewery.

The spur collection contains almost every pattern imaginable from a peacock with rubies and emeralds to the galleg style in the shape of a woman's leg complete with slippers and stockings. Many are embellished with inlaid silver, engraving, and figures such as horse heads, revolvers, silver dollars, card suits, flowers and geese. A rare pair of gooseneck spurs by J. R. McChesney is expected to bring lively bidding. "This is the best collection of spurs to ever surface," said Scott Franks, auctioneer. "Spur collectors who have seen it have put it in the top 3 in the world."

Important western art includes a painting by G. Harvey entitled, "House on Anderson Lane," an original Porfirio Salinas bluebonnet landscape, and G. Harvey numbered prints. There are original western bronzes by famous sculptors including Harry Jackson, whose last piece brought $32,000.

The auction includes several hundred other western and Indian artifacts: moccasins, Navajo rugs, silver buckle sets, antique firearms, a poster of Pancho Villa, an historical ivory-handled presentation Bowie knife with engraved handle bearing the name of two western icons, cattle baron, Col. Charles Goodnight, and Frank "Pistol Pete" Eaton, which has drawn national attention; a letter signed by Teddy Roosevelt, cartridge belts, gambling devices, canes, saddles, gun leather, a miniature chaps collection, beadwork, a cabinet card of Comanche Chief Quanah Parker with two of his favorite wives.

The auction preview takes place Friday, March 23rd from 10am-6pm, and 8am-10am on sale days in Waco, Texas at A&S Antique Auction Company, sale runs Saturday and Sunday.
