HollyHood Filmz to Bring 'Dear Mama: The Life Story of Afeni Shakur' to Silver Screen

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 27, 2007 -- Tupac Shakur protégé Young Noble of the legendary hip hop group The Outlawz and Omar "Ice Man" Sharif, Director and Producer of Showtime's American Rap Stars, announced that HollyHood Filmz, their independent film production company, has acquired the exclusive rights to the major motion picture Dear Mama: The Life Story of Afeni Shakur.

In conjunction with Amaru Entertainment, HollyHood Filmz' Dear Mama will chronicle the life of one of the most powerful women and prolific activists of the 20th century. Afeni Shakur (born January 10, 1947), is the mother of world famous slain American rapper Tupac Shakur, and was an important member of the Black Panther Party.

Born Alice Faye Williams in Lumberton, North Carolina, she led a series of chapters during the "break down" of the Black Panther party. Her superior intellect and tenacity enabled her to write and edit columns for the Panther Post with such strategic craftiness that the Federal Bureau of Investigation believed that the Black Panther Party was no longer in existence, while in fact they were multiplying rapidly.

Currently seeking A-List actors for the film, the bio-epic will examine the fascinating way her life experiences took her from a child in Lumberton North Carolina to the struggles she endured as a young revolutionary, being incarcerated while pregnant with 2Pac, overcoming her drug addiction, the aftermath of her son's murder and today.

"The Dear Mama story is long overdue...I'm just so blessed to be in a position to produce this movie and make sure Afeni and Pac is proud when its done, this movie will offer hope and be an inspiration to the millions of people who will see it," said Young Noble.

"This incredible lady defended herself in court while pregnant with 2pac during a bomb conspiracy trial facing 352 years and was acquitted of 156 counts against her and 20 other members of the Black Panther Party! I felt that the world needs to know where 2pac got his mind, heart, spirit and courage so I called Afeni with the idea. She was excited and gave me her blessing. The rest will be movie history!"

Dear Mama will offer millions of 2Pac fans a glimpse into her life before and after her son's death and how she won her legal battles against big record executives for the rights to Pac's unreleased material. By bringing in the best producers and artists, Afeni enabled the highly revered rapper to sell millions of albums and become a hip hop icon.

She is largely credited for her business acumen and ability to preserve Tupac's work and to add to his legacy. A year after Tupac's death, Afeni founded the Georgia-based Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, which provides performing art programs for young people.

The Dear Mama soundtrack will be produced by Young Buck and The Outlawz for Cashville Recordz/1nationentertainment in conjunction with Amaru entertainment. The high profile project will feature Young Buck, Outlawz, 50 Cent, T.I, Outlawz new artist Stormey, Begetz and many more.
