The American College to Award Its Highest Honor, the Huebner Gold Medal, to Louis P. DiCerbo, II, LUTCF, CLU, ChFC
Bryn Mawr, PA (PRWEB) September 24, 2007 -- The American College, the nation's leading educator of financial service professionals, recently selected Louis P. DiCerbo, II, LUTCF, CLU®, ChFC®, Chairman of PCP Benefit Plans, Ltd., to receive its highest honor, the Huebner Gold Medal. The award ceremony honoring this year's recipients will take place during the President's Circle dinner at the Kennedy Space Center at The College's 2007 Knowledge Summit in Orlando, FL on November 15, 2007.
"Lou personifies the spirit of this award through his exemplary commitment to our profession and to education. He is the only individual to ever have received the Huebner Gold Medal and been inducted into The American College Alumni Hall of Fame. Lou has set a standard of excellence that will be difficult to match by other notable alumni in the years to come," said Larry Barton, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of The American College.
The Huebner Gold Medal is the highest honor bestowed by The American College and is named for the founder of The College, Dr. Solomon S. Huebner. The medal has been awarded annually since 1975 and honors those special few individuals whose support of the College and its programs, and whose dedication to education and professionalism, have been of particular meaning to the mission and progress of the institution. The Huebner Gold Medal recipients are recognized annually at the President's Circle dinner amid some of The American College's most dedicated supporters.
"This is an exciting time to be part of The American College. We have already doubled the number of President's Circle members in 2007 and the year is far from over. This outpouring of support from our alumni is a clear vote of confidence in the current direction of The College and our plans for the future," Barton said.
The Huebner Gold Medal is one of many well-deserved accolades earned by DiCerbo over the course of his distinguished career.
He is a Life and Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table, co-chaired the Charles E. Drimal Estate Planning Professorship and supported the John P. Grimes reception foyer. DiCerbo also served on the Board of Trustees of The American College for six years and has been a member of all of The College's committees. He chaired the Golden Key Society at The College, raising almost $5 million for the organization. DiCerbo's New York agency had, at one time, more Golden Key contributors than any other agency in the United States.
When Penn Mutual purchased Janney Montgomery Scott, the company appointed DiCerbo to manage the first merged branch of the organization. His organization led Penn Mutual in insurance and investment sales for 20 of 21 years. He won the first "Blue Chip" award at Hornor, Townsend and Kent for investments and in 2006, personally led their (HTK) career force in Gross Dealer Concession (GDC).
He also excelled as an insurance professional. When DiCerbo was named the general agent of the New York agency of Penn Mutual in 1967, it ranked 76th out of 100 agencies in the Penn Mutual organization, generating only one-third of the income needed to meet expenses and break-even. Thanks to DiCerbo's commitment to professionalism, ethics and continuing education, he recruited and encouraged over 64 of his colleagues to pursue and complete their designation studies through The American College.
Within 10 years, DiCerbo, PCP & Associates became the No. 1 agency for Penn Mutual and stayed there for more than 19 consecutive years. DiCerbo's years of investment and insurance success prompted Penn Mutual to establish the Financial Consultant of the Year award in his honor.
DiCerbo was the first individual inducted into The American College Alumni Hall of Fame. He has served as President of the New York City Life Underwriters Association and a member of the GAMA Board of Directors. In 1984, DiCerbo was the featured speaker at LAMP's annual meeting. He received the prestigious GAMA International Management Hall of Fame award on March 27, 1995. He served as the National Director of GAMA International for six years; has been the past president of the New York chapter of NAIFA and the Society of Financial Service Professionals; and is currently chairman of PCP Benefit Plans.
Lou DiCerbo has been married for 41 years to E. Patricia DiCerbo. They reside in Manhasset, New York and have three children and three grandchildren.
DiCerbo's name will be added to the Huebner Gold Medal Recognition Wall located on The College's campus in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. This wall includes the names of every medal recipient since the award's inception.
